and other fascinating things
Did you know the odds of a blue lobster being fished out of the sea is 1 in 200 million. 1 in 200 million! That little creature is so unique that when he shows up, everyone does a double take and can’t believe what they have seen! And when I say blue, I don’t mean a grubby grey or brown, this little crustacean is a bright brilliant blue, a creature with an outstandingly strong colour, just like acrylic paint. I can just imagine the conversation that hundreds of families have had around the blue lobster at Brighton Sea Life Centre;
‘Oh look a blue lobster.’
‘But aren’t lobsters orange?’
‘Yeah it seems to be blue!’
‘Well I thought they were orange but this one is definitely blue’
‘Damn, that’s a really pretty lobster.’
It goes to show that things are not always what they appear to be: the more rare something is, the more surreal and precious it becomes. So next time you see something that looks like a blue lobster, stop and thank God that you were lucky enough to have the chance to see it, not everyone gets that chance and blue lobsters don’t turn up every day. Not to mention the fact that if the blue lobster so happens to hang around, be sure to take an interest in it, and never forget that you got a blue lobster, when you could have got any of the orange ones.
Maybe you don’t care about lobsters but since you’ve read this far I can only assume that you are grasping something about fascination in small details, maybe for you its something different. Let’s take something big and far away, like fireworks. Whats more immersive than staring into the sky on a November evening when fireworks are popping seven different kinds of smoke? If you can take your eyes off the sky to check your twitter in that moment, dare I say, something may have been lost. Grasp the magic of the moment, and find out which is your favourite firework.
