She looked at me, her eyes big blue oceans. My heart skipped a beat as her hand reached out and squeezed my finger.

Legs strong and sturdy, she, a princess, feels the soft fluff of our green carpet under her feet for the first time. What a walker she will be!

She takes no nonsense when it comes to her homework. Achieve, achieve, achieve.

Lost in a forest aged nine, she learns fear can be bigger than she can define. Emily’s mind will never forget.

Teen Queen, she learns to dream. Whatever it takes, she’ll make mistakes.

Her phone might be a brick, but it’s good enough for now. Friends are more important than ever to Emily and she’ll follow, and follow, and follow.

Love came and went but family stayed for the long haul flight. Mum’s hair turned grey. She reminisced for the days of little Emily.

“Bye Mum, gotta go, there’s a world out there you know.” Mum knew too well, a smile crossed her lips as she waved goodbye; after all her bird was ready to fly.

Call and response, bird to home, but look through the window. She’s alone.

Rescue calls, danger aborted. Settled in and set up, this diamond can sparkle.

The cycle begins all over again with new lungs breathing in the sweet Yorkshire air. The future holds life, only blink if you dare.
